In a move first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Green Bay Packers have re-signed wide receiver Randall Cobb to a 4-year, $40 million contract. This move came as a surprise as last week, CBS reported that the Packers were going to let Cobb test free agency, while targeting offensive tackle Brian Bulaga and defensive tackle Letroy Guion.

Earlier this week, the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings were named as the top pursuers of Cobb once the market opened, while the Packers would sit back and wait for things to unroll. As of Saturday night, the game plan changed, and the pen was put to the paper.

Cobb was drafted by the Packers in 2011. Coming off of his best season as a professional with career-highs in touchdowns, targets, receptions, and rush attempts, the $40 million contract with $17 million guaranteed comes as no surprise.

The Packers now have Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams, Jeff Janis, Jared Abbrederis, and Randall Cobb locked up for next season.
