Milwaukee Brewers: Segura and Gomez on the Block?

MILWAUKEE, WI-  The Brewers have started to turn it around a little bit as of late following a horrific start. This does not seem like the team we first saw at the beginning of the season, but it doesn’t look like Milwaukee will be a contender this year unless a miracle happens for a wild card birth.

Who knows, maybe it will be the opposite of last season and they’ll just take off the second half of the season?

With the July 31st trade deadline approaching, Milwaukee needs to figure out which players they need to build around around and what players to send away.  A trade may happen sooner than later, as Milwaukee was mentioned to be in trade talks with the New York Mets about Aramis Ramirez.

There have been rumors about the Mets and Brewers being in trade talks for a couple months now, but neither side has really shown heavy interest.  The Mets have been rumored to have a lot of interest in SS Jean Segura and OF Carlos Gomez, but doesn’t seem they would send the prospects Milwaukee would need for it to even be worth trading the young stars. And it doesn’t appear the Mets are willing to trade top prospect RHP Noah Syndergaard, which to me wouldn’t be worth it to let either Segura or Gomez go if Syndergaard wasn’t in the deal.  The Mets would have to give more than just Syndergaard for the Brewers to deal either of the two.  Maybe if the Met’s had Syndergaard, LHP Steve Matz, and another prospect such as OF Brandon Nimmo, C Kevin Plawecki, or SS Amed Rosario, Milwaukee could maybe think about doing it.  But Gomez and Segura should be untouchable, unless Milwaukee is completely blown away by an offer,  Jean Segura is under team control until 2018, with his talent and youth, that is extremely valuable.

Carlos Gomez brings everything to the table.  With his power, speed, and glove, you don’t come across player’s like Gomez very often.  Milwaukee shouldn’t feel they need to trade him, but they should be in talks about a contract extension if they decide to not trade him.  Gomez along with Segura would be two nice young stars to build a team around, and Milwaukee would be just a couple big pieces away from being back in contender.  And they have they talent to still turn stuff around, it’s not too late.  Craig Coounsell is doing an excellent job so that’s a great first step.  Now  Mark Attanasio, needs to sit down one on one with Gomez, maybe ask his opinion on what we need to fix things, then tell Gomez his plans.  If Gomez doesn’t seem to be on the same page, trade him, but Milwaukee needs to do everything they can to keep Carlos Gomez.
